Well, I’ve returned from this weekend’s adventure – a stay at Angel’s Motel in Wasaga Beach. Connor loved the motel and the pool. He couldn’t care less about the beach! We had lots of fun swimmming Friday night and again several times on Saturday. I was able to talk him into blowing fishy bubbles in the pool and he was motoring around beautifully. He can really go fast! We did lots of kicking and pushing the water with our arms. Also practised starfish floats front and back. We’d stay in the pool until I was cold and Connor’s teeth were chattering!

Sunday, the weather was kind of iffy and we had to check out at 10:30, so we headed over to the Elmvale Jungle Zoo. It was a huge hit.

Tigers at play.

The animals were all out and quite active. I loved the giraffes and the tigers.

Pink Flamingos

Connor loved the flamingos and the Boa Constrictor – mostly because he associates them with one of his favorite books. I had a hard time getting him to slow down and ‘walk beside mommy’ because all he wanted to do was run from one exhibit to the next.

After our zoo excursion, we drove south to Bolton so we could wind down at Uncle David and Aunt Julie’s house before going to Orangeville where I was dropping Connor off at his dad’s house for a week of holidays. We had a lovely time playing with Thomas and Aunt Julie will be pleased to know that we tidied everything up again before we left!

Another day, another adventure! And another drive too – this time in the opposite direction of St. Thomas. The Sunday morning following A Day Out With Thomas, Connor and I once again loaded into the car, this time heading to Port Credit. We had a sailing date with Uncle David, Aunt Julie and cousin Meaghan.

Normally, the Bolton arm of the family keeps their sailboat at the Etobicoke Yacht Club, however, Devin was sailing in a regatta as part of his summer sailing school, and the regatta was being run from the Port Credit Yacht Club. To make life a little less hectic, they booked a slip at the Port Credit Yacht Club and were spending the weekend there.

Devin was already on the water when we arrived, Meaghan and David had just finished a swim and Julie was readying things on the boat so we could get out on the water too. David greeted us at the Clubhouse and led us out on the docks to where they were moored. Meaghan kept an eye on monkey boy so I could grab our necessities from the car. No need to worry about Connor – he loves his cousin Meaghan and would do pretty much anything she wants him to do.

It was a gorgeous summer day. Everyone applied a good layer of sunscreen as we motored out of port. Once we were far enough out on the water, David cut the engine and hoisted the jib. I thought it was a sail, but Meggie, who had just finished her first week of sailing school, was quick to correct me on that point. (grin) Julie made sandwiches for everyone and we enjoyed a picnic all the while keeping our eyes on the activities of the small boats that were racing in the regatta. Connor was totally enthralled by everything – the water, the boats and his cousin Meaghan. She showed him how to tie knots and pointed out water towers to him. Of course he now thinks the CN Tower is a water tower. It was a proud moment when Uncle David let him have a turn at steering!

Serious concentration.

He was thrilled and didn’t have to be asked twice!

He’s a natural!

Unfortunately, because there wasn’t enough wind, the balance of the races were canceled. We waited for the last of the racing boats to be towed back to the yacht club, then David furled the ‘jib’, started up the motor and we went back in too. It was okay, we’d had a great time.

Once back at the yacht club, David, Meaghan and Connor went for a swim in the pool while Julie went to round up Devin.

Happy but cautious.

Connor clung to David for the first little while in the pool then when he was feeling more confident he paddled himself around some too.

Under his own power!

Devin found us and was very excited to announce that he had won the regatta! (HOORAY!!)

After seeing Devin, Connor decided he was finished swimming, so we wondered over to the clubhouse where Julie and Devin were watching awards presentations.

Content for the moment.

Connor was content to wrap up in his towel and sit with Devin for a little while – at least until a towel fight erupted between David, Devin and Meaghan.

In there like a dirty shirt!

He had to be in on the action too!

Connor was winding up as the afternoon was winding down. Thinking that it would be a good idea to leave on a happy note, I gathered up our things from the boat and we said our good byes. Lots of hugs for everyone. We’d had an excellent adventure. Connor was so good – on the docks, on the boat and in the pool. I’m pretty sure we’ll be invited back. I certainly hope so, I think I could get used to the yacht club scene!
